Artist information: Andrea Kobayashi
I am an artist in Japan. Originally from Australia, I moved to Japan in 2003, and I am now a permanent resident. I studied at the University of Melbourne (B.A. Hons) before receiving my M.A. (dist) for my exhibition and exegesis on Mythologizing Landscape: Receptions of Megalithic Monuments in Landscape Art from Charles Sturt University (New South Wales) in 2002. I exhibit my paintings and drawings in Japan and occasionally in other countries. Some of my smaller works are available online at AKjapan.
I have three main studio projects:
These involve painting, drawing and occasionally printmaking; especially monotypes.
I am also very interested in textile design.
I write haiku and tanka in English and illustrate my own poems, i.e. haiga. I have exhibited my haiga in Japan, and in 2009 I won 2nd prize for haiku in English in the Mainichi Daily News 13th Annual Haiku Contest.
I live in Gunma Prefecture Japan and have a studio for painting and small printmaking. I exhibit in local and overseas galleries, and I am active in organising art events and exhibitions. Resume available on request.
